Faculty of Journalism

Dean – Prof. Valeriy V. Kasyanov

The history of the faculty of journalism of Kuban State University dates back to August 21, 1991, when the Department of journalism was created as part of the faculty of Philology by the order of the rector Prof. V.A. Babeshko. On March 30, 1998, the Department was transformed into the Faculty of Journalism. The first Dean of the new faculty was a graduate of the faculty of Philology of Kuban State University, Professor A. L. Faktorovich. In the 1990s, the Department of journalism theory and the Department of history of journalism and communication studies were established at the faculty of journalism. Currently, the faculty consists of five departments: journalism and journalistic skills, electronic media, history and legal regulation of mass communications, publishing, style and media industry, advertising and public relations.

The faculty has training radio studio, training television studio, animation studio, Internet radio and a newspaper of Kuban State University.

Leading professors of the faculty are members of the dissertation council for the defense of doctoral theses (specialties - “Journalism”, “Russian Literature”, “Theory of Literature”).

The faculty annually holds international conferences “Media Strategies of the Modern World” and “Strategies for Socio-Economic Development and Promotion of Recreational Territories”.

Students of the faculty are winners and participants of all-Russian and international festivals, forums, competitions like "Russian student spring", "Mediation of the future", the 2014 Winter Olympic Games (as volunteers), Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix (as volunteers) and many others.

In 2013, an agreement was signed between Kuban State University and the Bordeaux Montaigne University (France) on the establishment of a Russian-French student school of sports journalism. As part of this project, French students visited the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and covered the world sports event in their media, while Russian students representing the faculty of journalism visited the Bordeaux Montaigne University and conducted a report from the world-famous Tour de France.
