Visit of Consul General of the Republic of Turkey to Kuban State University

On the 16th of June Consul General of Turkey in Novorossiysk Bayar Fırat visited Kuban State University. This was his second visit to KubSU which took place at the initiative of the Consulate.

The visit started with a meeting with Rector of Kuban State University Mikhail Astapov, where plans for international cooperation in the field of education and science were discussed. During the meeting Mr. Bayar emphasized that interaction in education is strategically important due to the geographic proximity of two regions and the high interest in the learning of Russian language in Turkey. The Consul noted that this is one of the most important aspects in the development of relationship between Russia and the Republic of Turkey and thanked for the opportunity to visit Kuban State University again.

Rector of Kuban State University Mikhail Borisovich Astapov thanked Mr. Bayar for his visit and expressed confidence that the meeting would be useful for students, and they would receive a lot of interesting and important information that could be used in the future during their studies.

One of the important issues that was discussed at the meeting was Turkey students’ involvement in the study process at Kuban State University. The Rector of Kuban State University noted that due to various circumstances the number of students from Turkey at the university in recent years has decreased, and joint efforts are necessary to remedy this situation. The parties agreed to send the information about the peculiarities of foreign citizens admission to study in 2022 to the Consulate General. It will help to attract Turkish citizens to study at Kuban State University.

After an official meeting with the university administration, Consul General Bayar Firat gave a lecture in English to students from the Faculty of History, Sociology and International Relations Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology on “Basic Principles of Turkish Foreign Policy and Turkey-Russian Federation Relations”. The lecture aroused great interest and at the end students asked a lot of questions on the topic of Turkey-Greece relations, Cyprus, Finland and Sweden prospects to join NATO, Turkey`s position on the Ukrainian issue compared with the Republic of Turkey's operation on the territory of Syria. Students were also interested in opportunities of internships in the Consulate General and asked questions about the prospects of student exchanges between Kuban State University and universities of Turkey.

As a result of Mr. Bayar's visit to Kuban State University it can be concluded that such meetings are an important element in the development of educational and scientific cooperation between the Republic of Turkey and Krasnodar Region.
