KubSU students celebrated the Chinese Spring Festival

On February 11-13, 2021, on the Chinese traditional Spring Festival Eve, students of the Department of Oriental and African Studies (Faculty of History, Sociology and International Relations) organized several thematic classes.

Traditionally, the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year (Chunjie), is celebrated according to the lunar calendar and is associated with the beginning of Spring. On this holiday, the Chinese have a tradition of gathering with close relatives, setting the table with traditional treats and congratulating each other. But there is a great tradition on the holiday eve itself, when it is customary to decorate the dwelling with paired inscriptions (duilan), images of the inverted hieroglyph “happiness” (fu dao), as well as to weave “knots of infinity”, symbolizing endless happiness and joy.

The students recreated the atmosphere of the holiday: they prepared presentations about the cultural peculiarities of Chinese speech communication, wove symbolic knots, wrote traditional congratulatory words with a brush and ink, and held a tea ceremony with a tasting of Chinese Puerh and Oolong teas.

Such events contribute to the study of the Chinese Language in inseparable connection with the history, culture and mentality of the people, to the development of individual creative abilities of each student, help to get to know the country of the language being studied more deeply.
